Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel's roots date back to the early 1900's. The Shaw Funeral Home was started in 1904 in a store front on North Broadway where Mahowald's Hardware is presently located. The Gergen Funeral Home was started in 1922 in a store front on South Maple near the current location of Tommy's Bowling Alley. Over the years there have been several owners and name changes, such as Shaw-Messer Funeral Service, Mathiesen, Gergen, Rhodes & Wight Funeral Chapel, Wight & Fox Funeral Chapel, Sogn-Messer Funeral Home and Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel, Inc.
In 2004 a merger of the two funeral homes took place and the firm became known as the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel, Inc. The new owners were Ernie Wight Jr., Morrie Comes and Howard Sogn and they have many years of caring experience. In 2009, Ernie Wight Jr. retired and his son Michael Wight became employed at our funeral home. In 2014 Serena Schlapkohl was hired on as a funeral director in preparation for the retirement of Howard Sogn in 2015. Current owners are Morrie Comes and Michael Wight. The current facility was built in 1992 and 200 more feet of highway frontage was purchased for future expansion and parking.
