Arlys Adeline was born on December 15, 1921 on a farm near Twin Brooks, South Dakota to Benjamin Paul Bohn and Bertha Helena (Ernst) Bohn. She graduated from Milbank High School. She was married to Wesley Wilson Arnold May 21, 1939 at her parent’s home in Milbank, South Dakota. Arlys and Wesley made their home on a farm South East of Hazel, South Dakota where they lived until retiring. They moved to their retirement home on Lake Kampeska near Watertown, South Dakota in 1975.

Arlys and Wesley, along with two other couples, were instrumental in beginning the Foursquare Church here in Watertown.

There were many things that Arlys enjoyed. At the top of her list was the relationship she had with her Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ. She was very active in her church and was often found teaching classes, leading Bible studies with Wesley, helping in fellowship settings and serving the Lord in any way she could find. Arlys had a lovely alto voice and loved to sing in choirs and occasionally singing solos during church services. Arlys and Wesley loved to entertain family and friends in their home and would usually find a way to share her love of Jesus with their guests.

Arlys loved reading her Bible, cooking and sewing. One Christmas she presented each of her twelve grandchildren with a tied quilt she had sewn for them. It was the highlight of that Christmas celebration. Many of those quilts are still being used today.

In the front of her Bible was written the following encouragement.

Older people have a privilege, a chance to experience God’s faithfulness over a lifetime. Their tests and trials do not grow smaller as the years go by, but their experience can strengthen their confidence in our wonderful Lord and Savior, knowing that He will help and strengthen and bring deliverance and victory, as He always has to those who love Him and serve Him faithfully.

Her favorite scripture from the Bible was 1 Corinthians 15:57-58, “Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord, is not in vain.”

Arlys was preceeded in death by: Her Parents – Benjamin Bohn and Bertha (Ernst) Bohn; Her Husband – Wesley Arnold; Her Son – Ronald Arnold; Her Siblings – Bernholdt Bohn, Bethel (Ralph) Liebe, Margaret (Emmet) Stengel, Wesley Bohn, Harlow Bohn, Marvelyn Bohn, Eloise (Darwin) Moldenhauer; Her Grandson – Ryan Arnold.
