Armin Arthur Hinkelman, son of Edward and Marvel (Tesch) Hinkelman was born on October 29, 1953 in Watertown, SD. He grew up in Waubay where he attended school and graduated from Waubay High School. He attended Northern State University and graduated from Bismarck State College.

Armin started his career in Bismarck, ND in 1983 with AAL, transferred to Rochester, MN in 1999 and Watertown, SD in June of 2002. He had over thirty-nine years of experience in financial services and had worked for several firms throughout his long career. A seasoned financial advisor, Armin had earned several designations from the American College of Financial Services, most notably ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant), CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) and RHU (Registered Health Underwriter). For the first part of Armin’s career, he focused his efforts on the insurance side of the equation. In 2007, Armin started working on the brokerage side of financial planning where he has continued to enjoy helping people meet their goals.

Armin and his wife, Candace, were married for 46 years and raised three wonderful children, Travis, Jared, and Briana. They raised their family in Bismarck where Jared (Kate), the middle son, lives and works as an executive with the Bain Agency. Their oldest, Travis, works as a data scientist and lives in a suburb of Sacramento, CA. Unfortunately, their youngest, Briana, died in 2021 at the age of 37. Briana worked at the front desk with Armin at Thrivent Financial for about 15 years. She is greatly missed.

Armin volunteered as a 5th and 6th grade pre-confirmation teacher for 10 years at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church until 2021. He enjoyed playing card games, puzzles and going to auction sales.

Armin is survived by his wife, Candace Hinkelman of Watertown, SD; brother, Curt (Sherri) Hinkelman of Sioux City, IA; sons, Travis and Jared; and 5 grandchildren, Gabby, Owen, Alaina, Lucas and Emma.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Briana Hinkelman, brother Darrel Hinkelman, and his parents Edward and Marvel Hinkelman.
