Obituary for Betty Holida

Betty Lou Holida, age 70, of Naples, SD, passed away peacefully, with family by her side on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at a Sioux Falls hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 20, 2021 with visitation for one hour prior to the services at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Carl Van Voorst officiating.

Burial will be at Naples Lutheran Cemetery, Naples, SD.

Pallbearers will be Josh Holida, Nathan Holida, Wouter Snyman, Ryan Peterson, Chris Bochek and Matthew Holida.

Betty Lou Peterson was born February 5, 1951 to LeRoy and Mazel (Aker) Peterson in Watertown, SD. The family lived in various communities including Deadwood/Lead, Madison, Sturgis, and Henry before the family settled in Garden City, SD. Betty married Wesley Holida on May 28, 1971. She became his "Honey Babe" for nearly 50 years, as they would be celebrating their 50th anniversary this month. Betty did seasonal work of potato harvesting for Gene Hartman and planting trees for the Clark County Conservation Office. Betty also enjoyed providing daycare for neighboring family and friends.

Betty loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and talking on the phone with family and friends, especially her beloved friend and cousin Sharon Niles. She loved the town of Naples and served on the town board for many years. Betty attended Naples Lutheran Church until it closed.

She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, crafting, thrift and dollar store shopping, playing cards, gardening and yard work.

Betty is survived by her husband, Wesley Holida of Naples, SD; four children, Kevin (Kathy) Holida of Hayti, SD, Shelly Holida of Watertown, SD, Brian Holida of Naples, SD, and Dustin (Samantha) Holida of Willow Lake, SD; eight grandchildren, Skylar Redday, Josh, Nathan, Kaytlynne, Quentyn, Daxton, Easton and Cainon Holida; her siblings, Darla Early of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dale (Teresa) Peterson and Bonnie (Roger) Jankord of Henry, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents LeRoy and Mazel, and two brothers Terry and Ricky Peterson.
