Obituary for Betty Ann Marohl
Watertown – Betty Ann Marohl, 84, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, SD.
A service of celebration for Betty’s life will be at 11 AM Friday, May 28, 2021 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 2001 2nd St. W, Watertown, SD 57201 with visitation Thursday, May 27th from 5-7 PM at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel 1111 4th St NE, Watertown, SD 57201. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD followed by lunch served at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
Pallbearers will be Brian Legried, Tracy and Tanner Huntington, Brad Kelly, Josh Stickland and Ryan Bond.
Betty was born on April 30, 1937 to Alfred and Grace (Christensen) Elton in Sisseton, SD. She was the second of five daughters. Betty grew up on a family farm, attended country school and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1955. Like most teenagers in the 50’s, Betty met her husband Daniel “Danny” Marohl roller skating in Sisseton. They were married November 26, 1955 in New Effington, SD and moved to Minneapolis, MN.
Betty was a very dedicated employee beginning her administrative career at Northrup King and Metal-Matic in Northeast Minneapolis. Betty took to the city and was very fond of living there. But, like many from rural communities, family roots were strong and Betty and Danny moved back to Sisseton and bought the family farm. Betty began working at Roberts County National Bank, Sisseton, SD and retired after working over 25 years as a bank teller.
Family, holidays, and traditions were Betty’s passions. Her bond with Danny was inseparable including their love for watching sports. It was important to her to acknowledge birthdays with a card. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday and she loved to decorate for Christmas. Family traditions were a mainstay of her life, which included over 45 years to Lake Shamineau, the Minnesota State Fair coupled with school shopping, and numerous trips with her four sisters.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred & Grace (Christensen) Elton, Father & Mother-in-laws, Edwin & Theresa Marohl, son-in-law, Daniel Denzer, brother-in-laws, Duane Cook, Gerald Marohl, Kenneth Marohl, Edwin, Jr. Marohl, Larry Marohl, and sister-in-law, Martha “Toni” Marohl.
Blessed to share in Betty’s life are her loving husband, Daniel of Watertown, SD; son Mark (Cindy) Marohl of Sisseton, SD; daughters Tonia (Brian Legried) Denzer of Omaha, NE and Mindy (Tracy) Huntington of Watertown, SD; granddaughters Amber (Brad) Kelly of Grand Island, NE, Kellie (Josh) Stickland of Sisseton, SD, Megan (Ryan) Bond of Mukilteo, WA, Laura (Jared) Suel of Elko New Market, MN, Stephanie (Chris Comstock) Denzer of Kansas City, MO, Morgan Huntington of Watertown, SD; grandsons Josh Denzer of New Prague, MN and Tanner Huntington of Watertown, SD; great-granddaughters Avery and Kendall Kelly of Grand Island, NE, Charlotte Bond of Mukilteo, WA; great-grandsons Kyle Kelly of Grand Island, NE, Carter, Jackson, Alex, and Hunter Stickland of Sisseton, SD, and Noah Morgan, Danny and Logan Suel of Elko New Market, MN; sisters Yvonne Cook of Wheaton, MN, Joanne (Dale) Medenwald of New Effington, SD, Gloria (Gary) Newell of Boise, ID and Angela (Gary) Hanson of Sisseton, SD; sister-in-laws Donna M. Marohl of Wahpeton, ND, Donna Marohl of Wahpeton, ND and Lois Marohl of Blaine, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
