Obituary for Boyd E. Koch

Boyd Koch, 93, of Watertown, SD passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake, SD.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 25th, 2021 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Abigail Ozanne officiating.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Sunday, October 24th at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel.

Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military funeral honors will be conducted by Marine Corps League Kampeska Northeast Detachment 1079, Marine Corps Funeral Honors Team, and Northeast South Dakota Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1054 of Watertown.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Koch, Jason Kiley, Bryan Koch, Jeff Bradshaw, Steve May and Steve Miller.

Boyd Edward Koch was born October 4th, 1928 in Hartington, NE to Dale J. and Alta (Gates) Koch. The family moved to the Watertown area and were engaged in farming. He graduated from Henry High School in 1946, and later graduated from Lake Area Tech where he was one of the first graduates of the Electronics program.

On October 7th, 1949, Boyd married Phyllis Sasse in Watertown. Boyd served in the Marine Corps in Korea (1952 – 1954). Boyd worked for Swift & Co. for 21 years, and Midtex/Midcom for 30 years. After retiring Boyd was an Investor/Installer for Data Truck Wireless.

He was a Life member of the VFW and Elks Lodge in Watertown.

Boyd enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many winters in the Ajo, Arizona area.

Boyd and his son David, were able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC in the fall of 2019.

Boyd is survived by his two sons, David (Karen) of Brookings and Allen (Dawn) of Watertown; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, Dr. Christopher (Tabitha) Koch, Hannah, Logan, Norah and Claire of Brandon, Ashley (Jason) Kiley and Etta of Viroqua, Wisconsin, and Bryan Koch of Sioux Falls; and his special friend, Susan David of Henry.

He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, an infant son Francis John, and his siblings Dean and Darrell Koch, and Joyce Harding.
