Obituary for Burton Langendorfer

Burton G. Langendorfer, age 89 of Omaha, NE and formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away November 10, 2020 in Omaha.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 9, 2021, with visitation one hour prior to the service starting at 1:00 pm, at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Masks will be mandatory. Thank you. Services will be recorded and added to the website as soon as available.

Burton George Langendorfer was born on April 10, 1931 in Watertown, South Dakota to Wayne Sr. and Minna (Grahlmann) Langendorfer. He attended school at Foley, and then worked on the family farm. He took over the farm when his father retired.

Burton married Darlene Joyce Knox on April 28, 1962 in Watertown. Burton farmed alongside his brother, Wayne Jr. until Burton retired from the family farm in1981, then started working for area farmers. In 1987 he took a position at the Watertown Coop Elevator where he worked until his retirement. Burton and Darlene also ran a storage business. In 2008, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska where they lived until his passing.

Burton was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Omaha and was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Watertown where he served on the administrative board. He also served on the board of the Watertown Coop Elevator.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Langendorfer of Omaha, two sons George Langendorfer (Kim) of New Underwood, SD, Dale Langendorfer (Darla) of Omaha NE and one daughter, Nancy Hayward (Rob) of Gillette, WY, his brother, Wayne Langendorfer Jr., who has since passed away Dec. 3, 2020 (Mary) of Watertown, SD, 4 grandchildren: Heather Hayward of Gillette, WY, Kristy Beeson (Joe) of Kansas City, MO, Josh Hayward (fiancée, Cassie) of Box Elder, SD and Shane Langendorfer (Lanna) of Box Elder, SD.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Burton was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Sr. & Minna (Grahlmann) Langendorfer, his daughter, Becky Lea Langendorfer, one grandson, Christopher Hayward, two sisters, Ruth (Langendorfer) Clark and Helen (Langendorfer) Christie, brothers-in-law, Loring Clark and Dean Christie, his nephew Larry Clark and great nephew, David Clark.
