Obituary for Caroline M. Madsen

Caroline M. Madsen, 89, of Watertown, SD, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Jenkins Living Center. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Janet Miller and Pastor Scott Dempster officiating. A.J. Sherrill will be the pianist and Robbyn Givens will be the soloist. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Burial will be in the Castlewood Cemetery, Castlewood, SD. Pallbearers will be Chad Woodard, Ted Woodard, Jeff Buum, Pat Kast, Carmen Kast and Carrie Buum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to The American Cancer Society, 4904 S. Techopolis Dr., Sioux Falls, SD 57106 or Mayo Clinic, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905. Caroline Marie Madsen was born on March 21, 1929 to Hilding and Irene (Eide) Fornell in Aberdeen, SD. She grew up and attended school in Aberdeen. She earned her teaching certificate from Northern State Teachers College. Caroline worked as a teacher's aide in Watertown and Aberdeen. On June 12, 1949 Caroline married Robert C. Madsen at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They lived in various states including California and Minnesota. They returned to Watertown and Caroline worked as a teacher's aide and at Walmart for almost 20 years. Family was Caroline's focus. She was strong in her faith and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Miriam Circle. She loved being a wife, homemaker, and mother. She enjoyed crocheting, genealogy, being a teacher's aide and stocker and belonging to her garden club. Caroline is survived by her children, Ron (Rhonda) Madsen of Vail, AZ, James (Teresa) Madsen of Watertown, SD, Janet Madsen and Becky (Ted) Woodard of Galesville, WI, and James (Amanda Boyd) Madsen of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Carmen, Carrie, Amanda, Jamie, Chad and Sean; 12 great-grandchildren, Beth, Bailey, Tyler, McKenzie, Jordin, Landen, Caden, Michael, Easton, Corbin, Eli and Alanna. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, and her daughter Mary Kay Madsen.
