Obituary for Carolyn Jean Friske
Carolyn J. Friske, 75, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday October 25, 2020 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, SD.
There will be no services at this time. The family plans to have a celebration of life in the springtime when it is safe to gather.
Carolyn Jean (Saeger) Friske was born to Albert Murphy Saeger and Rita (Schulte) Saeger on October 7, 1945 in Altona, Manitoba Canada. After the passing of Albert Saeger, Rita married Harold Evans who became Carolyn's stepfather.
The family lived in Watertown where Carolyn graduated from Watertown High School in 1964 and went on to attend South Dakota State University. Carolyn was married on May 14, 1966 in Des Moines, IA and soon after moved back to Watertown to raise a family and start her career as a Realtor, spanning over 35 years until she retired in 2013.
Carolyn also had the opportunity to host and be a surrogate mother to over 12 Foreign Exchange students and their families including, Ernesto, Markus, Manena, Alfonso, Rodrigo, Eduardo, Victor, Cristina, Rossana, Roberto I., Roberto V., Erdem and Carlos as they learned the English language, American customs and attended Watertown High School.
She loved to travel, especially to Mexico, where she went frequently with her family and friends. Carolyn lived at Lake Kampeska for over 60 years and enjoyed boat rides around the lake, watching and listening to the birds and working in her garden. Gathering to play cards, especially Pinochle, was a highlight for spending time with family and friends.
Carolyn leaves behind her children, James (Jim) Friske of Ham Lake, MN, Laura (Rick) Engelstad, and Mark (Patti) Friske of Plymouth, MN; six grandchildren Ashley, Isabel, Jacob, Ian, Sara and Carson; her siblings, Fred (Laurie) Saeger, Colleen Saeger, Ed (Kay) Evans and sister-in-law, Jackie Saeger all of Watertown; and her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, brother Al Saeger and stepsister Judy (Dick) Larson of Lawton, IA.
