Catherine Lordemann was born on December 3rd, 1939 at St. John's Hospital in Helena, Montana. She was the first of six children born to Bernard J. (Ben) Lordemann and Esther A. (Salvas) Lordemann.

Catherine attended St. Helena Grade School and Cathedral High School, where she was a proud majorette in competitive baton twirling. After high school, she attended Carroll College in Helena and completed an internship at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, CA. In 1961 she earned her degree in Medical Technology from Carroll College, and began her career in the lab at St. John’s Hospital. Catherine worked full time until her eldest child was born, after which she continued with part time work at the hospital and the doctor’s clinic.

Catherine married her soulmate, Steven D. Foster, on October 28, 1961 at the St. Helena Cathedral. They were happily married for nearly 61 years, and raised four daughters: Laura Catherine (1963), Carolyn Marie (1965), Lisa Diane (1967), and Stephanie Mae (1985).

Catherine and Steven lived in a myriad of places throughout their married life, but their home was anywhere that they were together. Their first apartment was located a short distance up the hill from Catherine’s Grandmother Salvas’ Log Cabin Grocery, which is a storied institution in Helena history. Steven’s job with Montana Power took them to live for short stints at Hauser and Holter Dams, MT. Later, Steven worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, and they lived in Canyon Ferry, MT. Steven transitioned to Western Area Power Administration and moved the family to Jamestown, ND, where they lived for 19 years. From there they moved to Orangeville, CA, but preferred life in the Midwest and returned to Jamestown after two years. Eventually Steven’s job required him to relocate to Watertown, SD where they lived for 26 years. In 2021, after the onset of dementia, the couple moved to Moorhead, where Catherine received the level of care she needed as her disease progressed. Steven’s devotion to Catherine never wavered, and as her needs increased, he remained committed to providing and procuring the best care available, and steadfastly stayed by her side to the end.

Catherine lived a long, healthy and happy life. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a devout Catholic. Catherine was kind and generous to everyone she met and always put others before herself. After leaving the medical profession, she sold Avon products in Orangevale, worked as a tax preparer in Jamestown and volunteered her time as a secretarial helper at the Immaculate Conception School in Watertown. She had many hobbies and interests, including singing in the church choir and playing the piano. She also enjoyed biking, camping, and playing games such as solitaire and puzzles. Catherine loved walking, an activity she enjoyed daily. Catherine cultivated many close personal friendships through the years. Family was always her top priority, and she was actively involved in each of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Catherine brought immeasurable joy to everyone who loved her. She will live forever in our hearts.

Catherine is preceded in death by her father Bernard J. (Ben) Lordemann, her mother, Esther A. (Salvas) Lordemann, her sister Donna F. Warner, her brother Bernard (Bernie) Lordemann, and her brother Paul Lordemann.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Steven Donald Foster of Moorhead, her daughters: Laura C. Foster of South Pasadena, CA, Carolyn M. Olson (Lionel) of Fargo, ND, Lisa Foster Kostadinov (Alex) of Estes Park, CO, and Stephanie Foster Hammers (Antone) of Los Angeles, CA, her grandchildren: Levi K. Olson, McKenzie C. Olson and Eliana Catherine Kostadinov, her brother, David Lordemann (Mei) of Los Altos, CA, and her sister Sharon Tregidja (Ed) of Helena, MT.
