Obituary for Charles B. "Charlie" Brown

On Sunday January 8, 2023, our Heavenly Father called our dad, Charles Brown, home to be with him.

A Celebration of Life for Charlie and Marie is set for June 3, 2023 at the Lions Park, in Watertown, SD. The celebration will be from 1-4:00pm with a Time of Sharing starting at 2:00pm. Please dress casual and comfortable and come to celebrate!

We all have read obituaries that go on and on but Charlie would not want that. He was a simple man.

Charles Burnel Brown was born August 23, 1948, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba Canada to Burnel and Della (Dorcus) Brown. Charlie was a very active, mischievous young boy growing up, keeping his mom and dad as well as the neighbors on their toes! He loved sharing stories of his shenanigans as a child. Charlie grew up and went to school in Portage La Prairie. During high school he was part of the Canadian Militia until he left school and the militia behind to go work on the Canadian Railroad.

When he met Marie Ladwig, he knew she was the one he wanted to marry and spend his life with. After marrying Marie, he left Canada and moved to the states. They made their home in Watertown, SD and were blessed with three children, Craig, Kellie, and Cory.

Charlie was employed at Quadee/Minnesota Rubber in Watertown where he worked until retiring in 2013.

The simplicity of Charlie can be summed up by: weekends on his boat fishing, hunting or tinkering in his garage. He also took much pride in working outside, tending to his yard or grilling steaks. He was always up for a mean game of cribbage, his favorite pastime.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Craig (Karen) Brown of Watertown, SD; Kellie (Johnny) Fette of Tucson, AZ; and Cory (Michelle) Brown of Wyandotte, MI; his siblings, Irene McClennan of British Columbia, Canada; Patsy (Barry) Barker of Penhold, Alberta, Canada; his grandchildren, Bailee Brown of Sturgis, SD; Jacob VanVallis, Jordan VanVallis, Justin VanVallis, all of Missoua, MT; Mercedes Jarabek of Janesville, WI; Casey Fette of Pierre, SD; Myah Fette, Noah Fette of Tucson, AZ; Josh Manthei of Wyandotte, MI. Great grandchildren, Adalyn of Sturgis, SD; Scarlett, Cordelia, Casey Jr. of Pierre, SD, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Welcoming home in Heaven is his wife of 53 years, Marie; his parents, Burnel and Della Brown; sister, Margaret Walker; infant brother, Peter; brothers-in-law, Charles Walker and Ken McClennan.
