Obituary for Chris "Tootsie" Christensen
Chris (Tootsie) Christensen was born November 14, 1928 to Ted and Irene Swenson and passed away at the age of 94 on December 8, 2022, at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD.
Chris grew up in Watertown, South Dakota. After graduating High School she met Edward (Bud) Christensen, and they got married on April 22, 1947. One short year later they welcomed their son Denny. After leaving Watertown they made their home in Renner, SD.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Chris worked at a variety of places including Anderson Cafe, Litton’s, and Hutchinson Technology. Chris ended her career as a hostess at Renchler’s. In the 70’s Chris enjoyed trail riding, riding horses in parades, and putting on horse shows at the arena in Renner. Later in life she enjoyed going to the casino in Flandreau with her sister-in-law Laverne. The last few years Chris lived with her friend Leona, they enjoyed going out for supper and going to church on Sundays at Good News Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. Everyone will remember Chris by her stubborn sassy tell it how it is personality.
Chris is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Patty Christensen; Grandson Scott (Brittany) Christensen; Grand Daughter Kelli (Scott) Schleuter; Great Grandkids Jordan, Brady, Emily, Haley, and Sam; Great Great Grandkids Corbin and Ashtyn; nephews Gary, Greg, Gordy, and Glen Kliegel; and special friend Leona Dumdei.
Chris was preceded in death by her husband Edward (Bud) Christensen; Son Dennis (Denny) Christensen; parents Ted and Irene Swenson; siblings Mel Swenson and Geraldine Kliegel; niece Gwen Kliegel.
A celebration of life will be on Friday December 16, 2022, at the Renner American Legion from 3:00-6:00 pm. 47410 258th St, Renner SD 57055.
