Obituary for Constance O. "Connie" Schmidt
Constance "Connie" O. Schmidt, 84, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Jenkins Living Center.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the funeral chapel.
Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD.
Pallbearers will be Michael Strutz, Scott Strutz, Charles Redetzke, Tim Redetzke, Dean Jacobson and Dave Thorsgaard.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Connie's many nieces and nephews.
Constance O. Schmidt, daughter of Charles Stratton and Alice (Painter) (Stratton) Redetzke was born on November 3, 1936 in Waubay, SD. She grew up in Ortley, SD where she attended school and graduated from Ortley High School.
On November 10, 1963 she married Daniel H. Schmidt in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Watertown, SD. They made their home in Watertown and Connie worked for numerous years at Quadee (Minnesota Rubber), and cooked in many local restaurants. In her later years she did daycare, and did daycare their whole lives for the Wirkus and Crain families, who were very special to her.
Connie was an avid crocheter/embroiderer and sewer. She loved watching old western movies and spending time with her family. In her younger years she could be found playing cards and gardening.
Connie is survived by her brother, Artnell "Ted" (Elizabeth) Redetzke; her special niece, Karn "Kit" Jacobson, who was more like a sister to Connie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Stratton and Alice (Painter) (Stratton) Redetzke, her husband Daniel H. Schmidt, her siblings Berneal "Bud" Stratton, Audrey Staton, DonaJean Christian, Ardith (Gussie) Allers and Marles (Mick) Strutz.
