Obituary for Darlene Alice Olson
Darlene A. Olson, age 88, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at a local hospital.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett will officiate.
Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Eric Olson, Monte Brown, Jake Anderson, Brad Reiter, Joe Meilinger and Cody Krause.
Darlene Alice Olson, daughter of Henry and Olive (Timm) Whitney was born December 30, 1932 in St. Paul, MN. She grew up in Stillwater, MN and attended school in Forest Lake, MN, graduating from Forest Lake High School. On December 29, 1950, Darlene married Obert T. Olson in Watertown, SD. After their marriage the couple moved to Minneapolis and in 1972 Darlene and Obert moved to the family farm near Waverly, SD. In 1993, they moved to Watertown. Her beloved husband Obert passed away on July 3, 2002.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Altar Guild and DAV Auxiliary.
Darlene enjoyed animals, reading, traveling, walking with her dogs and visiting with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Obert, her daughter Gwen, and her four dogs Fred, Beth, Norman and Lulu.
Darlene is survived by her sons, Dean (Marcia) Olson, James (Karla) Olson, Dave (Debi) Olson, and Douglas Olson; her sister, Edyth Wall; 9 grandchildren, Eric Olson, Adam Dyer, Lisa Brown, Krissy Suski, Missy Wooten, Mandy Meilinger, Lauren Reiter, Jake Anderson and Ali Olson; and 13 great grandchildren.
