David “Dave” Olson was born October 17, 1957 in Minneapolis, MN. He spent his youth and early teens in Minnesota. In 1971, he moved with his family to the family farm near Waverly, SD. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1975.

On September 21, 1978 he married Marlene Wartenbee and to this union, their daughter, Lisa Kay Olson, was born.

Also in September 1978, he started working for Morton Buildings out of the Watertown, SD office. He continued his career with Morton for the next 43 years. Dave passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, March 28, 2022 in Faulkton, SD. He died on a jobsite doing what he loved to do. He loved his work and moved all over the country, living in New York, Wisconsin, Colorado, Florida and finally coming back full circle to live in Castlewood, SD, working out of the Watertown office.

While living and working in Colorado, Dave met the love of his life Debi. They wed on April 13th, 2002. To this union their daughter, Alexandrah “Ali” Rose-Gwen Olson was born. Dave also gained his bonus son Jake Edward Toebbe Anderson in this union.

Dave spent his free time attending many activities and events for his granddaughters, Taylor and McKayla. He lovingly cared for his mother through her health battles and during her final days. He loved to tinker around and enjoyed his hobby farm. He was always working on something and often spoke of his planting and harvest trials and tribulations.

Dave was loved by his family and was always seen smiling, laughing and joking.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Debi of Castlewood, SD; his children, Lisa (Monte) Brown of Clear Lake, SD, Jake (Rae) Anderson of Fort Collins, CO, and Ali Olson, Castlewood, SD; his granddaughters, Taylor and McKayla Brown; three brothers, Dean (Marcia) Olson of Papillion, NE, James “Tim” (Karla) Olson of Wright City, MO, and Douglas Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; and his nieces, nephews and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Obert and Darlene, and his infant sister Gwen.
