David Lee Opitz was born November 2, 1950 to Leander M. and Irma Lou (Moen) Opitz in Watertown, South Dakota. He grew up in Watertown where he attended school and graduated from Watertown High School. He then went to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota where he graduated with a degree in education. He also studied political science and law.

David lived in Minnesota for a while before moving to San Francisco, California where he taught high school Spanish for several years as well as some paralegal work before moving back to Watertown. David loved music and was an outstanding piano player and choir singer. He was very outgoing and made friends quickly with his enthusiasm, wit and genuine interest in people.

David had a deep love for his parents, family, friends and his longtime companion to the end, his dog, Morgan. He also loved cars like the 1956 Chevy Bel Air he drove in high School and his Miata and Corvette he owned later on. He also enjoyed travel and adventure. David took his mother, Irma to Norway to visit the old country. He had a wealth of facts and information on history, politics and religion stored in his memory and could converse for hours about many things with surprising accuracy.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Irma and Leander Opitz, his grandparents, Gustav and Inga Moen, and Michael and Anna Opitz, and several aunts and uncles.

He will be truly missed but not forgotten by his cousins, aunts, uncles and friends, and his faithful dog, Morgan.
