Obituary for Dawn Hewlett

Dawn Kay (Waggener) Hewlett, 48, of Watertown, passed away in her home on May 4, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with Lymphoma.

Dawn was born in Vermillion, SD on August 7, 1974 to Fred and Helen (Jensen) Waggener and was the youngest of five children. Growing up in Vermillion Dawn was well loved and doted on by her older siblings and always found numerous ways of having a good time. She was very much involved with all sports and spent her summers at the pool and lake.

She graduated from Vermillion High School and then went on to college at Marshall, MN. She then came to Watertown to be with her sister, Rita. Her sister then encouraged Dawn to come and work with her. Through her, Dawn gave 28 years of loyalty to Senor Max's until her death. Many plates of "Nacho's" were cooked-more than we could count. She was a dedicated coworker and boss anybody would love to work with!!

Dawn met Kyle Hewlett and was married on June 30, 2007. Dawn had high hopes of becoming a mother. In 2010 she gave birth to a baby boy named Austin. Austin was premature and became her forever baby.
Due to her huge heart, Dawn treated her nephews and nieces as her own. Tony Anglin, Troy Anglin, and Matthew Kranz were more a "brother" to her in life. They always knew they could count on Aunt Dawn for a good laugh, good advice and for being a good role model.

Many people enjoyed Dawn's company. She was fun to be around and was quick witted. She always jokingly said "I'm glad you got to see me" as you were leaving. Little did she know it really was a treat to spend time with her.

Blessed to have shared her life are, her sister, Rita Allen of Watertown, SD; her bonus mother, Rachel Starr of Sioux Falls, SD; her bonus sisters: Kristi Olson, Nancy Malson and Brenda Crawford; nephews: Tony (Juanita) Anglin and Troy (Sarah) Anglin of Watertown, Matthew (Carrie) Kranz of Yankton, SD, Darwin Miller of Sioux Falls, SD, Travis Lundquist of FL, Chad, John, and Robert; her nieces: Tiffanie Cowell of MN, Rhonda Adday of SD, Stacie Jordan of SD, Caussandra Rogers of SD, Tammy Colucci of MN, Tracie Bents of MN, Sharon, Leah, and Crystal; great nieces and nephews: Anthony, Keirsten, Ty, Trista, Eli, Griffin, Joanna, Tryton, Addy, and Alex, Stevie, Makayla, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who were a huge part of Dawn's life.

Preceding her in death are her angel baby Austin, her sisters Linda and Cheryl, her brother Al Miller and her parents Fred and Helen, and her grandparents, and her nephew Philip.

Dawn was a gal who lived for life and loved heavy. She never met a stranger, she was friends to everyone she met! Everyone was special in their own way. In Dawn's words, she was not a cancer victim, many shared so many diseases and she always put others first. Dawn's message was and still is this: "We got this! We'll get through this! Don't sweat the small stuff and no one fights alone!!!"

There will be a Celebration of Life for Dawn on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 3:00-8:00 at Memorial Park (Pavillion) in Watertown. Per Dawn's request, please wear dart, racing, benefit shirt or casual clothing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Dawn to Codington County Cares in Watertown or Pink Ladies.

Urn Bearers are Dawn's nephews: Tony Anglin, Troy Anglin and Matthew Kranz.

Dawn's burial will be at a later date in the Bluff View Cemetery, Vermillion, SD.
