Obituary for Donald J. "Don" Riley
Donald "Don" J. Riley, age 91, of Watertown passed away Friday, November 26, 2021.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Richard Fox as celebrant.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown with military honors by the Codington County American Legion Post 17 and the US Navy Honors Team.
Pallbearers will be James Riley, Joseph Riley, Daniel Riley, David Riley, Timothy Riley and Joseph Abell.
Donald John (Don) Riley, son of John and Laura (Nelson) Riley, was born June 8, 1930 in rural Henry, SD. Don was a graduate of Henry High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy.
Don was married to Anna Jane Kruiter on September 8, 1956 at Saint Henry's Catholic Church in Henry, SD. Don and Anna raised a family in Watertown, SD. Early in their married life, Don worked at the Coast to Coast hardware store. Later, Don worked at the Watertown Post Office for 30 years.
Don enjoyed refinishing antique furniture that he found at auction sales in the surrounding area. While at the sales, he couldn't walk away from a $1 box of treasures. Don also loved the competition of a good card game, especially pinochle.
He is survived by his wife, Anna of Watertown; his children, Julie (Joe) Abell of Lebanon, KY, James Riley of Dallas, TX, Joseph Riley of Durango, CO, Jennifer Riley of Watertown, SD, Daniel Riley of Dallas, TX, Anne Riley of Watertown, SD, David (Shaundra) Riley of Kansas City, MO and Timothy (Emily) Riley of Watertown, SD; and seven grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and seven sisters.
