Obituary for Donna DeLores Borns

Donna D. Borns, 89, of Watertown, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, December 13th at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown.

Active Pallbearers will be Donna's grandsons: Jason Woods, Justin, Tom, Mike, Eric and Nick Borns.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all her grandchildren.

Donna DeLores Borns was born on October 7, 1930 to Chester and Thelma (Dahl) Lohr in Watertown, South Dakota. She grew up in the Watertown area and attended country school and Watertown High School. Donna worked as a Nurses Aid at Luther Hospital.

On January 6, 1950 she married Virgil A. Borns, Sr. in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Rauville Township. The couple had six children and lived on farms in the Watertown and Wallace area until buying a farm near Henry, SD in 1968. After their children had grown, Donna worked in housekeeping at Prairie Lakes Hospital for 20 years before retiring in 2000. Donna taught Sunday School at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Henry for many years before joining St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, doing crossword puzzles, photography, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Donna is survived by her children, Linda (Duane) Woods, Virgil Jr. (Sue) Borns and Jerry Borns of Watertown, Doug (Char) Borns of Castlewood, Steven Borns of Hazel, and David (Cindy) Borns of Clark; three sisters, Mabel Noeldner of Eau Claire, WI, Barbara Ries and Charlotte (Alan) Hanson of Sioux Falls; two brothers, LeRoy (Arla) Lohr of Antioch, CA and Allen Lohr of Chicago, IL; a brother-in-law, Charles Lausen of Hawarden, IA; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil on March 16, 2010; two sisters, Doris Lausen and Darlene Becker; one brother, Chester Lohr, Jr.; and three brothers-in-law, Orville Noeldner, Russell Becker and Marvin Ries.
