Donna Coplan, age 90, of Watertown (formerly of Hazel) SD passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021.
Funeral Mass services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown, SD. Father Richard Fox will be the celebrant with music by Leanne Geissinger and the funeral choir.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm, with wake service at 6:30 pm followed by a rosary on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Braxten, Caleb and Jonah Loppnow, Logan Coplan, Kevin Clough, and Justin DeBerg.
Interment will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery near Grover, SD.
Donna Marie Coplan was born February 5, 1931 to Olof and Hazel (Morrell) Lilleboe in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. She graduated in 1948 from Randolph Minnesota High School. She attended Northwestern Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis. For a time Donna was a medical technician in Clark and in Watertown.
On October 7, 1950, Donna and Gordon B. Coplan were united in marriage at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Clark, SD. The family lived in Watertown, SD from 1951-1958 and then they moved to the family farm near Grover, SD.
Donna loved farm life with her family. Taking care of her children, buying, selling and feeding sheep, and the many chores that come with farming kept her busy, Donna enjoyed going to livestock and antique auctions, cooking and baking, gardening, fishing and camping with family, knitting, sewing and playing cards, especially pinochle.
She made sure her children were active in 4-H, creating a tradition that carries on today.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Altar Society and taught catechism. She was also a member of the Chattering Chicks, a neighborhood women's group that started as an extension club.
Donna is survived by her children, Cindy Hayes of Watertown, SD, John Coplan and family Scott and Maria Crosby, Aurora, CO; Patricia (Bryan) King of Tulalip, WA, Paul (Cathy) Coplan of Cottonwood, CA, Margaret Johnson of Salem, OR and Joe (Tonya) of Hazel, SD; grandchildren Rebecca and Colin Hayes, Alice Mickelson, Gordon and Donnelly Coplan, Shai Newton, Lynn Clough, Melissa King, Rochelle and Michael Coplan, Sean Johnson, Logan Coplan, Braxten, Caleb and Jonah Loppnow, and Bryce, Matthew and Dean; 17 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws Anita Coplan and Marian Coplan and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; her son, Max Andrew (Andy) Coplan; granddaughter, Brandi Ann Hedge; her great-grandson, Ari Mellem; and her six siblings.
