Obituary for Donna M. Hanten

Donna M. Hanten, age 93, of Goodwin, SD passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in Watertown.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 am on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg, SD with Fr. Christopher Hughes as celebrant, Eileen Lindner as organist and Leroy Mack as cantor.

Visitation will be 2-5:00 pm, with a rosary at 5:00 pm, Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Kranzburg.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Mack, Jamie Broksieck, Mark Lukonen, Jason Broksieck, Matt Lukonen, Dylan Hanten and Corey Hanten.

Donna Marie Hanten was born on October 11, 1928 to Hubert and Nora (Endres) Ries. She grew up on a farm southwest of Kranzburg. Donna attended country grade school, attended high school in Watertown and graduated in 1946. She was employed at National Tea Grocery Store until 1953.

She married Vernon “Bud” Hanten on June 10, 1953 in Watertown, SD. The couple lived and farmed 2 1/2 miles west of Bemis, where they raised their six children. Donna was a devoted wife and mother. Vernon passed away May 26, 1991, just before their 38th anniversary. Donna continued to live on the farm with her sons.

Donna was a member of Ladies Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Birthday and Card Club.
She was very much involved in church activities

Donna enjoyed her flower garden, doing puzzles, playing pinochle and solitaire. In her earlier years she enjoyed making afghans.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Linda (Roger) Broksieck of Goodwin, SD, Beverly (Steve) Mack of Watertown, SD, Renee (Marty) Lukonen of Watertown, SD, Leroy Hanten of Goodwin, SD, Lenus Hanten of Goodwin, SD and Leon (Tina) Hanten of Babcock Ranch, FL; her 13 grandchildren and two step grandchildren; her 12 great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Armella Ries of Watertown, SD; and many relatives and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, Hubert and Nora; two brothers, Donald and Vincent Ries; and one sister, Rita Mack.
