Obituary for Dorothy M. Rukstad
Dorothy Rukstad, age 101, of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Jenkins Living Center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m., prior to service, on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. Pastor Dan Ofstehage and Pastor Scott Dempster will officiate with A.J. Sherrill as the organist and Judy Everson as the soloist.
Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Rukstad, Scott Price, John Weber, Trini Gonzalez, Rick Aman and Gary Hopp.
Dorothy Minnie (Schultz) Rukstad was born November 13, 1917, in Watertown, South Dakota, to Andrew B. and Jennie D. (Miller) Schultz. She grew up in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1935. She clerked at JC Pennys and Woolworths, and also worked at Hunter’s Grocery for several years following graduation.
Dorothy married Arvid Burdette Rukstad on October 6, 1945 in Watertown. Dorothy enjoyed being a homemaker and loving mother to their three children. Burdette passed away in 1976.
Dorothy enjoyed dancing in her younger years and also baking, working puzzles and quilting. She especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Janeane (Tom) Price of Keystone, SD; and Gregory (Marian) Rukstad of Desert Aire, WA; her daughter-in-law, Joni Rukstad of Collierville, TN; a very special great-niece, Sara (Rick) Aman of Watertown, SD; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, plus numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Ronald; three sisters; one brother; three nieces; and two nephews.
