Obituary for Dorothy M. Wensing

Dorothy M. Wensing, age 92, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Jenkins Living Center.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Richard Fox officiating. Dorothy's granddaughter Jona Johnson will be the soloist accompanied by Carolyn Maag.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 19, 2021 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Burial will be at the Esterly Cemetery, Florence, SD.

Pallbearers will be Dorothy's grandsons: Travis Nelsen, Aaron Rost, Andy Johnson, Justin Rost, Matt Brandsrud, and Ross, Jordan and Beau Wensing.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Amy Nelsen, Nikki Heggelund and Amanda Compton.

Dorothy Mae Wensing was born to Thomas E. and Gretchen (Ruhr) Flanagan on December 2, 1928 in Watertown, SD. She grew up in Henry, SD and graduated from Henry High School.
On December 16, 1952 she married James "Jim" Henry Wensing at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Florence. The couple farmed east of Florence and together they raised five children. Dorothy worked at St. Ann's Hospital and then at Midcom until her retirement. Dorothy and Jim retired from farming in 2009. Her beloved husband Jim passed away on January 1, 2014.

Dorothy enjoyed baking, gardening, playing cards and Sunday afternoon rides with Jim. She had a great love of animals, especially cats, dogs and hummingbirds.

Dorothy is lovingly missed by her children, Sue (Dale) Nelsen of Florence, Chris (Mike) Donovan, Mary (Carl) Tesch, Kay (Gary) Brandsrud all of Watertown, and David (Jodi) Wensing of Florence; 11 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; several great grandchildren; her siblings, Bette (Eldon) Redlin of Watertown, Kenny (Peggy) Flanagan of Montana, John (Jill) Flanagan and Karen (Armando) Carrion of Arizona; her sister-in-law, Margaret Dailey of Watertown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Wensing, one brother Donald Flanagan, and her special Aunt Elizabeth Pinholt.
