Obituary for Doug "Maynard" Nilsen
Doug "Maynard" Nilsen, age 69, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at his residence.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Lutheran Church at Our Redeemer in Watertown with Pastor Dan Overbo officiating.
Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Douglas Glenn Nilsen, son of Marvin and Nona (Haney) Nilsen was born on May 8, 1953 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Sioux Falls where he attended school, graduated from Washington High School. He then attended NDSU at Fargo, ND.
On October 13, 1979 he married Susan Speidel in Edgeley, ND. Together they raised their daughter Amy. The couple lived in Silverthorne, CO from 1972-1992 when they moved to Watertown. Doug worked in construction as a carpenter.
Doug, known as "Maynard" to many of his friends, loved to help anyone working on a project by furnishing his tools or his skill set.
His love of pheasant hunting went hand in hand with his love for his dog. It can be said that the dog he chose as his won the lottery because of Doug's devotion and care to their well-being.
Left to cherish his memory are Doug's wife, Susan Nilsen of Watertown; his daughter, Amy Nilsen of Sioux Falls, SD; his brother, Jerry (Patty) Witte of Brea, CO; his sister, Gail Duncan of Sioux Falls, SD; and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Nona Nilsen.
