Obituary for Dr. Ed "Doc" Larson

Doc Larson, age 90, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at his residence.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. The service will be recorded and available on our website after the service.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Pallbearers will be Dominique Sims, Thomas Payne, Drew Sims, Isaiah Sims, Jericho Sims, Christina Payne and David Muckenhirn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. LeRoy Tesch, Dr. Roger Clement, the staff of Lake Area Veterinary Clinic and all his friends and clients.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be made to: Immaculate Conception School (109 3rd St SE, Watertown, SD), Jenkins Nursing Home (215 S Maple, Watertown, SD), or Glacial Lakes Humane Society at watertownpaws.org.

Dr. Edward L. “Doc” Larson, 90, of Watertown passed away on April 22, 2023. Born October 28, 1932, in Acton, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Glenn and Josephine Larson. Dr. Larson graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1956. He practiced veterinary medicine from 1956-2022.

He was inducted into the South Dakota Music Hall of Fame in 2015. Dr. Larson was a member of the Elks Club for 60 years, as well as a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Throughout his veterinary career he was involved in 4-H, endurance races, horse shows, as well as volunteering services to Bramble Park Zoo, and the Watertown Humane Society. Dr. Larson was named South Dakota Veterinarian of the Year in 2016.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne M. (Gregor) Larson, whom he married on July 20, 1957; five children, Julie A. McCormick (Clyde), Kimberly M. Sims, Patricia L. Payne, Mark E. Larson, and Gregory A. Larson; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn and Jim, a sister, JoAnn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Larson was preceded in death by one brother, John, and a sister, Joyce.
