Obituary for Edgar O. Bunde
Edgar O. Bunde, age 103, of Watertown, SD, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Avantara Care Center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown with Reverend Keith Petersen officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Monday, March 21, 2022 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown and prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Bunde, Duane Goens, Myron Goens, Jeff Boeder, Bruce Boeder, and Mark Finstad.
Edgar Otto R. Bunde was born on December 22, 1918 to August and Augusta (Fromke) Bunde in Germantown Township, Codington County, SD. He graduated 8th grade at Popham #62. He was confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Rauville.
He married Eleanore Margaret Stein on October 20, 1940. They were married 72 years during which time the couple farmed and had a son, Merlin and a daughter, Marlys.
Edgar was a strong believer in the cooperative way of doing business. He was a board member of the Watertown Cooperative Elevator Association, the South Shore Cooperative Creamery and was a charter member of the Sioux Valley Cooperative Credit Union. He was also a member of the Codington County Crop Improvement and Farmers Union.
He was a charter member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served many years on the church council.
Edgar and Eleanore enjoyed traveling the southern states and taking bus tours. They also traveled to Europe and made a road trip to the Central American country of Panama.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marlys Bunde; his wife, Eleanore; his sister, Ethel Boeder; and his brother, Ernest.
Edgar is survived by his son, Merlin (Darlis) Bunde; his sisters, Irene Prouty and Delores Goens; his sister-in-law, Arlene Kannas; his grandson, Larin Bunde (special friend, Jacqueline Schaefer); his granddaughter, Sharmell Bunde; and numerous nieces and nephews.
