Obituary for Edith Mae Noeldner

Edith Noeldner, age 91, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Country Gardens Assisted Living in Medford, WI under the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.

Private family services will be held at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Paul Janke officiating.

Edith's service will be livestreamed at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2020 at www.stmartinschurch.com.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD.

Active Pallbearers will be Edith's grandchildren: Michelle, Matthew, Martin, Celeste and Daniel.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeanette Palelis, Kay Kluck, Dottie Hoff, Delores Beutow, Jeanette Moes, Noma Kannas, Irene Prouty, Velma Lentz, Arlene Kannas, Darlene Kolb, Jean Doyen, JoAnn Roti, Karen Christenson and St. Martin's Ladies Club.

Edith Mae Grewing was born on November 22, 1928 to Christian Ludwig and Ingaborg Christina (Person) Grewing at her Aunt’s house in Watertown, SD. Edith grew up on her parent’s farm and went to country school through the eighth grade. She then worked for J. R. Nichols as a housekeeper and then worked as a homemaker on a farm school for a teacher’s family. Edith moved to Watertown and worked as a dining room hostess at Luther Hospital.

She married Ralph Otto Gustave Noeldner on April 21, 1946 at St. John’s Rauville Church. They farmed for eight years north of Watertown. In 1955 they moved to Sioux Falls and then moved back to Watertown on July 3, 1963. Edith joined the Tempo Store in 1966 and worked there until it closed in 1984. She then started working at Shopko in 1985 until she retired.

Edith enjoyed gardening, her flowers, cooking and baking. She was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church and Ladies Club.

Edith is survived by her children Larry Noeldner of Watertown, Deanna (Randy) Centra of Sioux Falls, Donna (Kerry) Birgholtz of Watertown and David (Barb) Noeldner of Medford, WI; five grandchildren, Michelle (Chad) Larson, Celeste (Bryan) Hjellming, Matthew Birgholtz, Martin Birgholtz (fiancee', Alison Kruger) and Daniel Noeldner; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Mikayla, Berlynn and Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; her granddaughter, Melissa Birgholtz; her daughter-in-law, Annette Noeldner; three brothers; and one sister.
