Elgie Wright Noteboom was born March 21, 1950 in Watertown, SD to Elgie W. and Virginia S. (Gladin) Noteboom. He was raised primarily in Watertown where he attended school and graduated from Watertown High School.

On March 27, 1971, Elgie married DeEtta K. VanSickle at First United Methodist Church in Watertown. They were blessed with two children, Elliot and exactly 12 years later, Emily.

His working career started with driving a truck delivering Pepsi products and ended with driving a much bigger truck delivering gas and other fuels. In between, he spent most of his working years in sales and service of a variety of products, but he never lost his sweet spot for trucks.

Elgie served multiple enlistments with the South Dakota Army National Guard primarily with the 147th Artillery Battalion in Watertown and Webster, SD. His unit was activated to assist with cleanup following the devastating 1972 Rapid City Flood which claimed the lives of 238 people.

He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing with his son, Elliot and his grandsons, Kobey and Braydon, but especially enjoyed his time tinkering on his latest project. The project usually included one or more of the 3 R’s: repairing, remodeling, rebuilding. He remained an avid Watertown Arrows and Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan through winning and losing seasons.

Elgie is survived by his wife, DeEtta of Watertown; his children, Elliot (Bridget) Noteboom of Watertown; Emily (Anthony) Grangaard of Rapid City; four grandchildren: Braydon Noteboom, Piper Noteboom, Kobey Grangaard and Rainy Grangaard; his sister, Nancy (Jim) Meidinger of Watertown; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Ray “Peanuts” and Joyce VanSickle and generations of relatives that came before him.
