Obituary for Ellen Marie Swancutt

Ellen Marie Swancutt (Krueger) joined her Lord and Savior for eternity on June 19, 2022 on hospice care at Jenkins Living Center. She was 82 years old.

PLEASE NOTE DATE: There will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel, 1111 4th St NE, Watertown, SD 57201 with Pastor Scott Dempster officiating. A lunch will follow.

Ellen was born in Aberdeen, SD on October 28, 1939, to Iva and Wayne Krueger. She grew up in Watertown, SD and would spend her summers in Riceville, IA with her aunt, uncle, and cousins. It was at her Aunt Lela’s funeral in 1958 when she fell in love with Charles Swancutt, one of the neighbor boys that she grew up playing with over the summers. They married on June 7, 1959, in Watertown, right after his high school graduation, then moved to Riceville, IA where they started their family. Eventually they moved back to Watertown and together raised six children. Ellen and Charles moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1982. Charles passed away in July 2000 and it was then that she decided to winter in Tucson with her youngest daughter and spend the summers in Watertown with her oldest daughter until she chose to return to Watertown to reside at 200 Maple Place permanently in early 2021.

Ellen was a caregiver her whole life always looking after everyone else. She worked as a nurse aide for many years. She loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, and counted cross stich. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a solid woman of faith, meek and strong, and passionate about not missing anything.

We will all miss her inquisitiveness, her kindness, her ability to forgive, her amazing boisterous laugh, and all her stories about her grandchildren and the six cruises that she was fortunate to go on with different family members and friends.

Ellen is survived by her children: Randy Swancutt (Veronica), Larry Swancutt, Nancy Wittmeier (Todd), and Tanya Davis (Cory); eleven grandchildren: Nina Buchanan (Kris), Stacy Swancutt, Brandon Swancutt, Cassy Swancutt (Austin), Misty Swancutt, Sonya Swancutt, Shane Wittmeier (Joanna), Dylan Wittmeier (Heidi), Cade Davis, Cole Davis, Tawny Bernardi (Benjamin); five great grandchildren; Nicole and Talor Buchanan, Audumn Swancutt and Xander Deleon Swancutt, and Arthur Wittmeier; and her sister Leah Wietgrefe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 41 years, Charles Swancutt, sons Daniel Swancutt and Duane Swancutt; and brothers Edward Krueger and Warren Krueger.
