Obituary for Emil W. "Corky" Moehring

Emil William “Corky” Moehring, age 90, of Watertown, SD passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 13, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown with Pastor Dan Ofstehage officiating. Music will be furnished by Robbyn Givens as vocalist and A.J. Sherrill as organist. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Dialysis Staff at Prairie Lakes Healthcare. Active Pallbearers will be Corky's grandchildren and their spouses: Emily & Justin Griffith, Erin & Justin Boggs, Amanda & Cody Paszek, Erica & Danny Jacobsen, Jake & Grace Moehring, Alan & Bobbie Moehring and Jack Moehring. Corky was the youngest child of Lillian and Emil Moehring. He was born on April 6, 1928 in Glencoe, MN. He moved to Watertown while in grade school and graduated from Watertown High School. He attended South Dakota State College in Brookings. After a 48 state tour of the United States he came back and married his sweetheart, Virginia Miller of Watertown on April 23, 1950. About this same time Corky went into the construction business with his dad and during the next 50 years he built some of the finer homes in the Watertown area. Corky and Virginia had four children, Ron (Sheila) of Blunt, SD, Nancy (Mark) Reishus of Watertown, SD, Jim (Rose) of Sioux Falls, SD and Scott (Sharon) of Circle Pines, MN. While he loved his children (most of the time) he adored his seven grandchildren (all of the time): Emily, Erin, Amanda, Erica, Jake, Alan and Jack and his four great-grandchildren, Clara, Eli, Jack and Jamie. After Virginia had a stroke, he took care of her at home and she taught him the art of cookie baking. Over the next six years he baked over 5,000 dozen cookies (a known fact as he kept a tally of each batch). Corky was called home and reunited with the love of his life on October 9, 2018 and if you know him at all you can bet he is either out fishing, dancing or making pancakes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia, and his brothers, Harold and Vernon. He is survived by all of his children, grandkids, his sister and brother-in-law, Ardis and Stan Aslesen of Waubay, SD, and his sister-in-law, Nan Miller of Fridley, MN. Dad we love you, miss you and hope the fish are biting.
