Obituary for Evelyn Fern Neal
Evelyn Fern Neal passed away on November 16th, 2020, at the Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Facility in Hermantown, MN.
There will be a graveside service for family only. Pastor Jen Tyler will be officiating the service at 1:30 pm, November 20th at The Greenwood Cemetery, Brookings, South Dakota.
Masks will be mandatory.
Evelyn Fern Neal was born February 11, 1929 in White, SD to Willis and Doris (Haber) Tompkins. She graduated from Brookings High School. She married the love of her life, Robert G. Neal on August 14, 1948 in Sioux Falls, SD. They spent over 72 devoted years by each other’s side.
Evelyn and Robert moved to Redfield, SD in 1952 where she worked doing bookkeeping jobs and later for the Spink County Bank in the insurance department. In 1985 Evelyn and Robert moved to Watertown, SD where she sold and serviced insurance for the surrounding area. Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Watertown, SD.
Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Eckstrand, Teresa (Eckstrand) Boysen, Corey Eckstrand, Ryan Neal, Jeff Neal, Laura (Neal) Walters, and Brian Neal.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Robert; her three children, Patricia (Roger) Eckstrand (Green Valley AZ/Hermantown MN; Richard (Sharon) Neal (Aberdeen SD); Douglas (Nina) Neal, (Sioux Falls, SD); seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sister Faye Josephsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Diane; a brother S.W. Tompkins; and sisters Ila Asmus and Lois Ullom.
