Obituary for Evelyn Thiewes

Evelyn M. Thiewes, age 87, of Watertown, formerly of Goodwin, SD, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Jenkins Living Center. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg with Father Kenneth Koster as celebrant. Tom, Sammy and Annie Bush will be the soloists accompanied by Eileen Lindner. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m., and a CDA Rosary to follow on Wednesday, November 14th at the church in Kranzburg. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Church Cemetery, Kranzburg, SD. Pallbearers will be Connie Stoebner, Roche Stoebner, Ben Thiewes, Virgil Thiewes, Bruce Thiewes, Dean Thiewes and Alan Thiewes. Evelyn Marie Thiewes, daughter of Ben and Catherine (Mack) Raml was born on August 29, 1931, in rural Goodwin. When Evelyn was only three years old, her father died and Norbert Spartz became the new father figure in the Raml family. Evelyn grew up in the Kranzburg, Watertown area and attended Holy Rosary and Immaculate Conception Schools. On June 24, 1952, she married Francis Robert "Jim" Thiewes at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. Evelyn was a homemaker and farm wife. Together Evelyn and Jim raised five children. Evelyn was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed farming, gardening, bowling and playing pinochle and card games. Evelyn is survived by her children, Connie (Roche) Stoebner of Watertown, SD, Ben (Brenda) Thiewes of Kandiyohi, MN, Virgil (Mary) Thiewes of Goodwin, SD, Bruce (Shelly) Thiewes of Clear Lake, SD, and Dean (Shari) Thiewes of Kranzburg, SD; nine grandchildren, Alan (Nicki Bamlet) Thiewes, Vanna (Brent) Engst, Brent (Anne) Thiewes, Zach (Chelsy) Thiewes, Paige (Troy) Warner, Megan Thiewes (Sam Pischke), Erika Thiewes (Nick Connor), Rachel (Davis) Leiseth and Caleb Thiewes; six great-grandchildren, Harlie, Sean, Alex, Wade, Owen and Jaymes; and her sister, Lou Ann Haan of Watertown, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis "Jim" Thiewes; her sister, Mariette Bush; her stepfather, Norbert Spartz; and her nephew, Jonathon Haan.
