George Benedict Huber was born on February 22, 1930 to John P. and Anna (Brandner) Huber on the family farm located 3 and 1/2 miles west of Herreid, SD in Campbell County. His mother passed away from cancer when he was seven years old. His two older brothers and three older sisters helped pave his way through childhood and he spent a lot of fun times accompanying his dad. George attended rural school and then went on to Herreid High School. Due to a childhood accident and losing sight in his left eye, he wasn't able to enter military service. George and his brother then farmed together.

On October 24, 1959, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Blair at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid. They were blessed with three sons, Mike, Doug and Greg, and two daughters, Dawn and Susan. George's biggest joys were his family. George farmed 3 and 1/2 miles west of Herreid from 1930-1996. He loved living in the country and enjoyed farming and ranching, especially with his cattle and his dogs.

Due to only living a few miles from the Missouri River, fishing and other water sports were a welcomed pastime. They enjoyed spending their Sunday's together with family and neighbors for a potluck around a bonfire on the beach.

George and Kay moved to Watertown in 2015 to be closer to their children and grandchildren, their loving family who they couldn't get along without! George became a resident at the Estelline Nursing & Care Center in 2018 due to a stroke.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Kay; their children, Michael (Deb) of McCook Lake, SD, Douglas (Steffany) of Greeley, CO, Gregory (Kerri) of Sioux Falls, SD, Dawn (Dennis) Thyen of Waverly, SD, and Susan (Marlo) Jones of Kent, WA; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann Marie Hilt of Ocean Springs, MS; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Art and Leonard Huber, and sisters Laura Libis and Mary Arbach.
