Obituary for George A. Lindberg

George Axel Lindberg, loving husband and father passed away on August 22, 2022, at the age of 83.

George was born to Fredrik and Ella Lindberg on March 3, 1939, in Cook, MN. He grew up in Cook, MN where he attended elementary school and graduated from Cook High School. George received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Minnesota and went on to obtain his master’s degree in education from Mankato State University. From 1962-1974 George taught in education and then from 1974-1999 he was a regional education representative for the Scott Foresman company. In his retirement years, he enjoyed working at Hy-Vee.

On May 16, 1964, George married Colleen M. Barrett at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Paul Park, MN. The couple lived in the communities of Inver Grove Heights, Fergus Falls, and St. Paul, MN before moving to Watertown, SD in 1976.

George had many passions in life. Spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, was one of his biggest passions. He shared his love for golfing, having managed the Watertown Municipal Golf Course for many years. He taught his grandkids how to golf, reminding them of the importance of keeping their eye on the ball. George also enjoyed painting, playing cards, and could usually be found watching the Minnesota Twins. He was a founding member of the Watertown Optimist Club and spent many hours volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.

George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Colleen; his children, Leah (Rodney) Klatt of Henry, SD, David (Rebecca) Lindberg of Edina, MN, Jodi (Bill) Reiser of Long Lake, MN, Dean (Andrea) Lindberg of Watertown, SD, and Dan (Kristine) Lindberg of Homer, AK; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Lindberg of Virginia, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fredrik and Ella; and his siblings; William and Helen Lindberg of International Falls, MN, Lloyd Lindberg of Cook, MN, and Florence and Tom Bowen of Virginia, MN.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Watertown with Father John Fischer as celebrant. Blaine Martian will be the song leader accompanied by Jane Jaspers.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., with a scripture service and a time of sharing at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2022 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Honorary urn bearers will be George’s grandchildren: Tyler Klatt, Kasey Monahan, Corey Klatt, Rylea Klatt, Ella Lindberg, Matthew Lindberg, George C. Lindberg, Joseph Lindberg, Nolan Reiser, Campbell Reiser, Tanner Lindberg and Hayley Lindberg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in memory of George to Prairie Lakes Hospice, 401 9th Ave. NW, Watertown, SD 57201.
