Obituary for Henry Joseph Rauen

Henry J. Rauen, age 77, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Avantara Watertown.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown with Rev. Abigail Ozanne and Rev. Clifford Haider officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Frank H. Adams Post 750 of the VFW, Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion, Northeast South Dakota Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1054 and South Dakota Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Burial will be at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.

Pallbearers will be Mike Winter, Clifton Haider, Leslie Haider II, Bill Wolf, Brad Severson and Derrick Rauen.

Henry Joseph Rauen, son of Joseph and Myrtle (Bublitz) Rauen was born on June 4, 1944 in Gary, SD. He grew up in Altamont, SD and graduated from Clear Lake High School. He proudly served in the United States Army.

Henry married Rita Kay Haider on November 11, 1966 at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. The couple lived in Watertown where Henry was Founder/Owner of Rauen Steel Construction for 50 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories and sharing a free opinion. He also enjoyed reading, particularly World War II books, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Henry is survived by his wife Rita; their daughter Tori (Shannon) Isaacson of Watertown; two grandchildren Taylor Rauen Johnson and her fiance' Kole Finneman, and Savannah Rauen Isaacson; one great granddaughter Maya Rayne Johnson; his siblings, Mary (Gordon) Severson of Hugo, MN, Marcia (Francis) Parker of Circle Pines, MN, Julie (Robert) Seckler of Woodbury, MN, Carl (Margaret) Rauen of Benton, KY, Rita (Robert) Smith of Coon Rapids, MN, and Anita (Terry) Kenyon and Roger (Rhonda) Rauen of Gary, SD; his brothers-in-law, Clifford Haider of Carlisle, IA, and Leslie (Gertrud) Haider of Kirby, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Myrtle Rauen, and one brother Vincent Rauen.
