Hiene Junge, 75, of Watertown, SD, completed his journey to heaven on November 22nd, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving and supportive family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel, 1111 4th St. NE in Watertown, SD. There will be refreshments to follow.

Interment will be at Saint Petri Cemetery in Bruce, SD. Following burial there will be a luncheon at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce.

Hiene Harvey Junge was born July 27th, 1947 in Larchwood, IA to Fritz and Marion (Hayden) Junge. Hiene grew up in Larchwood working on the family farm until they moved to Bruce, SD where he graduated high school in 1965. It was during high school he met the love of his life, LaVonne Anderson, and they were married on October 23, 1964.

Hiene worked in construction building bridges and roads for 16 years until becoming the Codington County Highway Superintendent in 1980. He held that position for 13 years and became the Pennington County Highway Superintendent for 20 years. During this 33-year career, he was the President of the South Dakota County Highway Superintendents (SDCHS) and the President of the National Association of County Engineers (NACE).

During his early years, he enjoyed building and racing stock cars and once had a fantastic crash while leading the biggest race of the year. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling, pastimes with much less injury risk. He had numerous top 5 finishes in fishing tournaments during the South Dakota County Highway Superintendent Conferences in Pierre. He had a knack for fixing anything with a motor, for a short time anyway. He enjoyed playing pool and cards, both activities he would make sure you knew how good he thought he was with his colorful sense humor. He loved his lunchtime naps. But he really loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his light blue eyes, big smile and great sense of humor.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 58 years, LaVonne (Anderson) Junge, Watertown, SD; two sons, Michael (Laurie) Junge, Phoenix, AZ and Donald Junge, Norwalk, IA; son-in-law, Jeff Lautt, Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Erik (Beth) Kludt, Dell Rapids, SD, Miranda Kludt, Harrisburg, SD, Taylor (Dan) Munk, Hartford, SD, Dylan (Elizabeth) Lautt, Sioux Falls, SD, Josephine Junge, Fountain Hills, AZ and Amelia Junge, Woodland Park, CO; five great-grandchildren, Jade Kludt, Auhbree Kludt, Bryce Kludt, Ashtyn Munk and Paisley Munk; two brothers, Vernon (Connie) Junge, Sioux City, IA and Boyd Junge, Sheldon, IA; his sister, June Junge, Inwood, IA; and sisters-in-law, Diane (Gary) Bombeck, Estelline, SD and Peggy Junge of New Jersey.
