Obituary for Irma Lou Arlene Opitz (Moen)
Irma Lou Opitz, 92, of Watertown, SD, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Jenkins Family Living Center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2019 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Scott Dempster officiating.
Visitation will be 2-4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel.
Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Dale Adams, Kraig Moen, Robert Mudge, Kirk Mahlen, Tyler Austad and Matt Thorson.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials will be designated by the family.
Irma Lou was born February 11, 1927 to Gustav and Inga (Hove) Moen at the Moen Homestead farm near Roslyn, SD. She attended rural schools and graduated from Rosyln High School. Eventually her family moved to Watertown, SD. Irma Lou attended Northern State University and received her Teaching Degree. She taught for many years as a country elementary school teacher in Codington County, SD.
Irma Lou Moen and "Lee" Leander Michael Opitz were united in marriage on August 28, 1948. The couple had celebrated 70 years of marriage, before Lee passed away on September 30, 2018.
Irma Lou was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and also the Sons of Norway.
Irma Lou is survived by her son, David Opitz; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Inga; her husband, Lee; and her siblings, Geri, Doris, Noel, Marvin and Gene.
