Obituary for Jane Boettcher

Jane Boettcher was accompanied to her Heavenly home by the angels on Saturday, April 8, 2023. She was 93 years old.

A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Monday, April 17, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown, South Dakota with Fr. Richard Fox as celebrant.

Visitation will be from 3-5:00 pm, Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jane’s grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her great-grandkids: Nathan Boettcher, Adrianna Boettcher Austin Boettcher, Jacob Boettcher, Michal Anne Schmeling, and Tucker Lunde.


Jane was born on July 19, 1929 to George and Josephine (Lonemen) Linneman on a farm outside of Dempster, South Dakota. She married Arnold Boettcher on May 1, 1948 in Estelline, South Dakota. To this union four children were born, Robert, Richard, Patricia and Steven. Jane put her family first, she was always home when her children came home from school. There was always something home baked waiting for them. Besides being a homemaker Jane worked many jobs such as bookkeeping, selling Avon, jewelry sales, cleaning businesses. Later she worked with her husband for Sure Bet Shuttle. They then formed Jane and Arnold Tours and ran it until Arnold’s death.

Jane was the wife and mother that everyone wanted. Many kids called her mom.

Jane is survived by her children, Richard (Karyl) Boettcher, Patricia (Dan) Schmeling and Steven (Penny) Boettcher all of Watertown, SD; daughter-in-law, Carol Boettcher of Watertown, SD; 11 grandchildren: Bob (Brenda) Boettcher, Marcus (Lynne) Walsh, Rick (Nichole) Boettcher, Chuck (Casey) Boettcher, Brent (Kristy) Boettcher, Amanda (Jeff) Lenards, Tina Schmeling, Tim (Brenda) Schmeling, Troy Schmeling, Timberly (Marc) Lunde, Megan Boettcher (Cory Hubbard); 31 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Shirley) Linneman of Estelline, SD; and her sister-in-law, Lena Linneman of Anaheim, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Josephine Linneman; parents-in-law, George and Mary Boettcher; her husband, Arnold; her son, Robert; special friend, Frank Barthel; three brothers, Kenny, Mike, Eddie; two sisters, Mardell and Darlene; eight brothers-in-law; and eight sisters-in-law.
