Obituary for Janelle L Bybee

Janelle Lois (Lindberg) Bybee, age 71, of Watertown, South Dakota passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Janelle was born to Melvin and G. Lucille (Hanna) Lindberg in Clear Lake, South Dakota on July 18, 1949.
Janelle grew up in Strandburg, South Dakota where she graduated high school and then went on to graduate from Lake Area Tech in the cosmetology program.

Janelle married Jerry Bybee in October 1969 and they later divorced in 1987. They had two children together, Jana and Joshua and she helped care for her three step children, Julie, Tammy and Richard. She was so proud of all of her kids and their accomplishments. The family lived in Labolt, South Dakota until 1977 where she provided cosmetology services to friends, family and neighbors; often exchanging services for beef and milk instead of payment. The family also lived in Texas for a short time and in several different cities in southern California, where Jerry is originally from. They returned to northeast South Dakota in the mid 80’s, with the older kids staying in California. Janelle and Joshua later moved to Watertown and resided at the Hi-Rise apartments until October 2020, when Janelle went into the Good Samaritan nursing home Sioux Falls Village. And Joshua is currently living at the Gilbert house in Watertown.

Janelle really enjoyed cross-stitching, collecting angels, spending time and visiting with family and friends. But you better make sure you had a little extra time when she called, as she loved to talk, tell stories and often had a laugh with you. She had several friends that she spoke to weekly up until her death that had been friends with her for over 50 years.

Janelle often had a smile on her face. She loved watching her kids in their activities over the years, eventually seeing her granddaughter, Emma, do her activities, especially play hockey. Even though she and Josh could not make as many games as they would have liked, they would always clip and keep the newspaper articles regarding Emma‘s games. She was so proud of her granddaughter and she brought her so much joy.

Janelle is survived by her daughter, Jana Foisel and granddaughter Emma Foisel of Watertown and her son Joshua Bybee of Watertown; her siblings Sharon Dahlgren of Strandburg, brother Ray (Judy) Lindberg of Dell Rapids, her step children, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Lucille Lindberg, her brother Ron Lindberg, son-in-law Mike Foisel and brother-in-law Sonny Dahlgren.

A celebration of life service will be held in the spring of 2021.

Condolences can be sent to her daughter, Jana Foisel at 1501 North Maple, Watertown, SD 57201.
