Janice "Jan" Stricherz, age 83 of Watertown, SD passed away Monday, January 2, 2023.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 am, Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Richard Fox as celebrant.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Friday, January 6, 2023, with a scripture service at 6:30 pm, at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown.
Jan's family requests memorial to Immaculate Conception School or a charity of their choice.
Janice Barbara Stricherz was born June 5, 1939 to Killian F. and Stella R. (Wall) Stricherz in Watertown, South Dakota. She grew up in Watertown; attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School through the ninth grade then attended Watertown High School graduating in 1957.
Jan started working at Ozzie’s Bakery at the age of ten. She also worked at The Blue Star Café and Wynn’s Potato Chips in Watertown.
She moved to California then Hawaii and stayed with her brother Richard, who introduced her to Roy Zimmerman Jr. Jan and Roy were married December 3, 1960 in Hawaii. The couple was blessed with one son, Roy. While in California Jan was employed at the Naval Air Station, Dry Cleaning Company and Winchell’s Donut Shop. She was a believer in hard work and worked all her life.
Jan was employed at Coast to Coast, Haywood’s Jewelry and Midcom in Watertown. She later began working at Immaculate Conception School.
Jan enjoyed volunteering for the Cub Scouts, Voting Poll, nursing homes and many others. She belonged to the Rosary Makers. Jan also enjoyed doing many, many crafts, singing in the church choir, bowling and feeding the birds.
Jan passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023 in Watertown. She was 30,527 days old!
Grateful for having shared in her life are her son, Roy A. (Tina) Zimmerman III of Oxnard, CA; her siblings, Killian “Kelly” (Carole) Stricherz of Chamberlain, SD, Dr. Matt (Kelly) Stricherz of Montezuma, NM, Dave (Sue) Stricherz of Watertown, SD, Mary (Pete) Evanson of St. Paul, MN and Luvina “Vina” (Jim) Clendenin of Watertown, SD; sister-in-law, Fe Stricherz of Watertown, SD; brother-in-law, Dan Bell of Canton, OH; three grandchildren, Amanda (Ruben) Gomez, Raven Zimmerman and Camille Zimmerman; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Leah Gomez; former husband, Roy A. Zimmerman, Jr. of Pahrump, NV; and many relatives and friends.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Stricherz; and sister, Nancy Bell.
