Obituary for Jessica L. Jones

Jessica Lois Jones, (aka Jesi, Jess, Jones, Messica, Hurricane J), age 27, of Watertown, S.D., passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in Redfield, S.D., due to an automobile accident.

Jessica Lois Jones was brought into this world on July 1, 1995, in Watertown by parents Dale and Kimberly (Gusso) Jones. She joined older brother, Douglas Jones. She gained two older sisters, Paige and Chelsi Paulson, when her mother married Doug Paulson. Then her baby sister, Karli Paulson, was born. Jessica grew up between Watertown and Clark. She graduated from Penn-Foster Online High School in 2012.

She was a hard worker, having worked at various restaurants and bars throughout her life, including Mr. T’s and Shooter’s. Her hobbies included: watching NFL games, going to concerts, listening to music, seeing live comedy shows, getting tattoos, sad girl time, taking shots of Rumple Minze, giving Tren new life experiences, and partying with her friends. She lived her life unapologetically and hated boring obituaries. As her first tattoo said, “No Fear, No Doubt!” She loved life and loved a good time. She always said, “we’re not here for a long time, so we might as well have a good time.”

Even though she had a lot of tough times, she lived for fun and adventure. Her life turned for the best when she had her son, Tren in 2016. He saved her life. She never met a stranger. If you were lucky enough to be her friend, you were her family. She loved her family fiercely. She never backed down from a challenge. She helped anyone in need in any way she could. She was Rumple Minze in a teacup. She got her potty mouth from her father. (No, really, she did!)

She was a bright light, a brilliant soul, and a free spirit. Her smile lit up a room, and she never let anyone be down for long. Even in her worst times she had a smile on her face and would put a smile on yours. She had an infectious laugh. Remember her with a sad girl song, a laugh and a shot of Rumpiez.

Thankful to have shared in her life, is an incredibly large and complicated family tree, including her son Tren Bernard; her momma and daddy, Kimberly and Doug Paulson, Clark; her brother Douglas (Jennifer Sargent) Jones, Watertown; her sisters Paige (Ben) Victor, Boise, ID; Chelsi (Ty Helkenn) Paulson, Raymond, and Karli Paulson, Clark; grandparents Larry and Joyce Gusso, Florence, and Sharry Jones, Wessington; bonus family Andy (Casey Meier) Wicks and Performance Towing, Watertown; Tren’s grandparents, Dave and Mashell Bernard; Tren’s bonus grandma, Kristi Knock; her dog, Daisy; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Dale Jones; paternal grandpa Jerry Jones, paternal grandparents, Richard and Karen Paulson; her aunt, Connie Fuerstenau; and her beloved dog, Chewie.

Honorary pall bearers will be EVERYONE! She wanted to be cremated because it was her last chance to get a smokin’ hot body. Her ashes will be taken to vacation destinations to continue her passion for adventure.

Her daddy, Doug, always said she should have been born with wheels.
Take note of the good picture, because she would haunt us from beyond the grave if we picked a bad one. She would love this not boring obituary, because I bet it made you smile, like she did.

Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. There will be a public prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and a time of sharing to follow.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Cornerstone Church in Watertown with Reverend Mark Tracy officiating.

Jessica's service will be live streamed by the Cornerstone Church and can be viewed at http://www.cumcwat.com/watch-live/

In honor of Jessica, her family requests that everyone wear their favorite team jersey, band t-shirt, or merch from a concert to the service and rock the Crocs if you’ve got 'em. These were some of her favorite things to do, and she would want her last hurrah to be a good time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for a donation to the First Responders.
