Obituary for Jo Ann Kleven
Jo Ann Kleven, age 74, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Avantara Watertown.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to her funeral service at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Paul Janke will officiate.
Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Jo Ann's grandchildren: Rebecca Egerstrom, Michael, Jared, and Cory Schmig, and her great granddaughters, Julie and Amy Schmig.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her great grandsons: Mason, Riley and Frank Egerstrom.
Jo Ann Kleven, daughter of Frank and Margaret (Sackett) Lantgen was born on June 27, 1947 at Bartron Hospital in Watertown, SD. She grew up on a farm six miles northeast of Waverly, SD. She attended school in Waverly, graduating from Waverly High School in 1965. On August 12, 1965, Jo Ann married Alfred Kleven in Watertown. The couple had one daughter, Carrie and the family lived northeast of Waverly until 1988, when they moved to Watertown. Alfred Kleven passed away in September of 1993.
Jo Ann worked as a waitress at the South Shore Cafe and then the Regal Cafe. She also worked at various sewing factories, did commercial cleaning, and worked as a clerk at the Salvation Army.
Jo Ann loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed calling bingo at the Eagle's Lodge, and cross country road trips with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret Lantgen, and her husband Alfred Kleven.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carrie (Todd) Schmig of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Terry) Egerstrom, and Michael, Jared, and Cory Schmig; and five great grandchildren, Julie and Amy Schmig, Mason, Riley, and Frank Egerstrom.
