Joan Marie Robbins Rau, 79, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 at her home in Aberdeen, SD.

Joan was born on January 3, 1944, to Charles and Hildreth Robbins of Florence, SD. She attended Lakeview School, a one-room country school and then graduated from Watertown High School in 1962. Joan attended Black Hills State College. She married Noble LaCroix in 1963 and had four children: Brian, Peggy, Bret and Bradley.
Joan married John Rau in 1993, and lived in Rapid City, SD until they moved to Arizona because of John's health. After John's death in 2015, Joan moved to Aberdeen to be close to family.
Joan enjoyed playing the piano, and was an avid reader-sometimes reading a book a day. For several years Joan sold craft items at craft shows on the weekends, and enjoyed meeting with many friends.
Joan is survived by her children: Brian (Debra) LaCroix of Aberdeen, SD, Peggy (Gary) Clark of Pierre, SD, Bret (Ellen) LaCroix of Sioux Falls, SD, and Bradley LaCroix of Rapid City, SD; four stepchildren: Brian (Kimberly) Rau, Collin (Courtney) Rau, Dana Wright and Angie Wright; Joan's siblings are her sister, Julie (Greg) Moes of Goodwin, SD; her brothers, Glen (Linda) Robbins of Palmview, TX, Jim (Sandi) Robbins of Florence, SD and Jerry (Joy) Robbins of Watertown, SD; 28 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Rau, and her grandson Tate LaCroix.
