Joan Whittle, 86, of Watertown, SD, passed away Monday, April 6, 2020, at Jenkins Living Center. Private family services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel with Father Richard Fox officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watertown.

Pallbearers will be, Doug Riley, Jeff Riley and Mike Riley.

Joan Mary Whittle was born June 17, 1933, in Watertown, SD, to Raymond and Grace (Hupf) Riley. She grew up in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School. She and Leo Whittle were united in marriage on August 29, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. Joan was employed for 33 years at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in the Health Information (medical records) Department, retiring in 1998. She was a faithful, lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Joan loved to travel, including memorable trips to Chicago, Niagara Falls and the Statue of Liberty in New York, Las Vegas and Deadwood. She also enjoyed country music, especially Sherwin Linton.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her children, Kevin Whittle (Deb Kelsey) of Sioux Falls, SD, Dan Whittle of Custer, SD, Nancy Becker of Pipestone, MN and Roger (Twila) Whittle of Watertown, SD; seven grandchildren, Sally Whittle, Billie Brock, Josh (Bonnie) Becker, Sean Whittle, Megan (Derek) Engdahl, Marley Whittle and Morgan Whittle; nine great grandchildren; and her brother, Ambrose Riley of Watertown, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Rosemary Lantsberger and twin sister, Jean Hanson; her brother-in-law, Mike Lantsberger; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Riley.

Memorials are requested to Prairie Lakes Hospice.

I'm sorry to hear of Joan's passing. I worked with Joan for many years at the hospital and she could always bring a smile to your face. She was quite the lady. Prayers to the family during this difficult time!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I thought your mom was great!! I remember living next door to you all. I also remember sleepwalking one night to your back door.
