Obituary for Joann P. Roethler

Joann P. Roethler, age 87, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Watertown with Father John Fischer officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1009 Skyline Dr., Watertown, SD 57201.

Joann Patricia Roethler was born to Emil and Lila (Kannas) Beskow on October 21 1934, in Watertown, SD. She grew up in rural Watertown and attended 1st-8th grade at Rauville District #5. She then attended her high school years in Watertown, graduating with honors from Watertown Senior High in 1952.

On October 9, 1954 she married Richard L. Roethler at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father officiating. The couple lived in Loredo, TX for two years, then in Elgin, IL for four years before moving to Watertown in 1960 and they lived there until 1965, when Joann and Richard moved to Winona, MN. They moved to Dubuque, IA in 1968, and Joann worked at Dubuque Bank & Trust for a few years. Joann and Dick then moved to Bismarck, ND where they lived a few years before moving to Aberdeen, SD in 1986 until 1992 when they moved to Watertown. While living in Bismarck, Aberdeen and Watertown, Joann worked for 26 years at Norwest Bank (now Wells Fargo). She was the secretary at Holy Name Catholic Church for seven years. Joann and Dick returned to Bismarck, ND, where they were currently residing.

Joann was an active member of Holy Name Church serving as a eucharistic minister and usher.

She enjoyed music, reading, flowers, playing cards, especially pinochle, and watching the Minnesota Twins Baseball games.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Richard of Bismarck, ND; their children, Nancy L. Roethler of Bismarck, ND, Steven M. (Charmaine) Roethler of Maple Grove, MN, and Donald P. (Cindy) Roethler of Bismarck, ND; her brother, James (Mavis) Beskow of Watertown, SD; and her granddaughter, Rebecca (Wyat) Klabunde of Washburn, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lila and Emil Beskow, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and Leo Roethler, her grandparents, and aunts and uncles.
