John J. Loehrer, 81, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Ortonville Hospital, Ortonville, MN.
Funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2020 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank, SD.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the church.
Interment will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Milbank with full Military Honors.
Pallbearers will be Dan and Dale Loehrer, Ron Carlson, Stewart and Grant Loehrer, and Justin Carlson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be John's granddaughters: McKala, Rebecca, Hilary, Hope and Hannah Loehrer, Ashley and Brandy Carlson.
John Joseph Loehrer was born to Ambrose and Sarah (Linn) Loehrer on February 26, 1939 in Milbank, SD. He grew up in rural Milbank and graduated from Revillo High School. John enlisted in the Army National Guard on October 15, 1956 and served until October 21, 1964.
He married Judy Maxine Nelson on February 4, 1967 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. They lived on the Ambrose Loehrer farm until 1975, when they moved to their present farm and farmed all his life.
John loved to read farm books and restore old antique tractors. He enjoyed fixing things and there was nothing he couldn't fix. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Whetstone Valley Two Cylinder Club, and SD Farmers Union.
Grateful for having shared in John's life are his wife, Judy; their children, Daniel (Shelly) Loehrer of Milbank, SD, and their children, McKala, Rebecca and Stewart; Melissa (Ron) Carlson of Madison, MN, and their children, Ashley, Justin and Brandy; Dale (Jodi) Loehrer of Kranzburg, SD, and their children, Hilary, Hope, Grant and Hannah; his siblings, Marilyn (Ron) Kasuske of Watertown, SD, Lawrence (Karen) Loehrer of Revillo, SD, Kathleen (Louie) Straus of Elk River, MN; a sister-in-law, Karen Loehrer of Milbank, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers James, Robert and infant brother Joey.
