Obituary for John Leroy Olson
John L. Olson, age 81, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Prairie Lakes Healthcare.
**PLEASE NOTE DATE: Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with the memorial service to follow at 10:00 am, Friday, April 7, 2023 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Scott Dempster officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
John Leroy Olson, son of John A. and Bessie S. (Cook) Olson was born on June 16, 1941 in Watertown, SD. He attended school in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School.
On June 19, 1961 he married Diane Aalfs in Watertown. Five children, Kim, Stephanie, John, Kathy and Michelle were born to this union. Diane passed away on March 12, 1986.
John Married Peggy Hulzebos on February 14, 2008 in Watertown where they made their home. Peggy Olson passed away on April 3, 2011.
John is survived by his children, Kim Pickrel of Somonauk, IL, Stephanie Ries of Sioux Falls, SD, John (Kari) Olson of Valencia, CA, and Kathy (Rodney) Selchert of Watertown, SD; his sister, Stella Ostrander of Watertown, SD; 13 grandchildren, Eric, Kelley, Jason, Amy, Meghan, Melissa, Kate, Emily, Kassidy, Caden, Morgan, Christopher and Brooke; and 22 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle, his first wife Diane, his second wife Peggy, his parents John and Bessie Olson, three brothers Glenn Olson, Orville Olson, Harold Olson, and one sister Violet Lodoen.
