Joyce D. Benson, age 74, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Prairie Lakes Healthcare.
**PLEASE NOTE VISITATION AND SERVICE DATES: Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., May 17, 2022 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., May 18, 2022 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Paul Janke officiating.
Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD.
Pallbearers will be Davey Hanson, Larry Hanson, Randy Milton, John Milton, Duane Hanson and Brian Johnson.
Joyce Darlene Benson was born to Henry and Mary (Johnson) Hanson on September 24, 1947 in Milbank, SD. She grew up in Stockholm and attended school in Stockholm and Revillo through the eighth grade and later obtained her GED. She married LeRoy Benson on May 11, 1973 in Goodwin, SD and the couple made their home in Watertown. Together they raised three sons, Michael, Brian and Steven. Joyce worked as a waitress and then worked at Minnesota Rubber for over 30 years.
Joyce loved spending time with her family and grandkids. She enjoyed camping, playing cards and Yahtzee, crossword puzzles and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Joyce is survived by her husband, LeRoy of Watertown; their three sons, Michael (Shirley) and Brian (Kate) of Watertown, and Steven (Danielle) of Palmer, NE; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; her sister, Linda Barse of Watertown; and her sister-in-law, Elaine Hanson of Watertown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Hanson; her parents-in-law, Arnold and Ollie Benson; 3 brothers, Donald, Harry and Robert Hanson; and two sisters-in-law, Margie and Darlene Hanson.
