Judith Ann (Comes) Lantgen was born January 12, 1940 in Watertown SD to Bill and Helen (Vavricka) Comes. She graduated from Waverly High school. It was there that she met the love of her life, Melvin Lantgen. Judy married Melvin on June 18, 1958 in Waverly. They began their life together Living in Watertown, SD.

Judy worked as a drapery seamstress and parts assembler as a private contractor.
Judy was a devout parishioner of the Holy Name Parish where she was an active member of the St. Jerome’s circle. She played the organ for Holy Name for many years.

Over the 62 years of marriage, Melvin and Judy raised five children. During those early years the days and weekends were filled with camping, fishing, softball and hunting. She spent many evenings and weekends sitting in the dugout of a softball complex being official scorekeeper. Judy also enjoyed bowling, playing softball, gardening, canning and penny slots. As her children grew and the seasons of life changed, attending sporting events and school functions of grandchildren brought her great joy and pride.

Over the last year several challenges including a pandemic kept her physically separated from her loved ones. She filled her days keeping in close contact with snap chat, Facebook, distance visits and many hours on phone calls and Facetime.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Melvin; their children, Carrie (Dan) Hepner of Sioux Falls, SD, Rick (Betty) Lantgen of Granbury, TX, Randy (Carole) Lantgen of Watertown, SD, Cindy Nelson and her significant other, Andy Mogen of Keene, ND, and Sheila ( Scott) Voelsch of Watertown, SD; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; her siblings, Jim (Joyce) Comes and Billy (Carol) Comes of Waverly, SD, Tom (Patty) Comes of Sioux Falls, SD, and Doug Comes of Waverly, SD; her brother and sisters-in-law, Henry and Lois Lantgen of Schertz, TX, Mike and Norma (Lantgen) Opdahl of Spicer, MN, Robert and Nina (Lantgen) LaRock of Belgrade, MN, Doug and Deb Lantgen of Taunton, MN; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Helen Comes, her in-laws Laurence and Velma Lantgen, her sister-in-law Donna Comes, and a brother-in-law Victor Lantgen.
