Kate Rynn Rieke age 65, formerly of Clark, SD passed away November 1, 2020 with her girls by her side. She was born July 31, 1955 to Jack and Geraldine (Patterson) Hughes in Marshalltown Iowa. She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and a dear friend to many. Kate was as strong-willed as they come. She was spunky, fun and full of love and laughter and had a love for Jesus and her family as big as the sky.

Kate grew up in Iowa most of her childhood then later moved to Texas with her family. She was united in marriage to Thomas A. Tinney and to that union was born 3 daughters, Ayrica, Jaycee and Amanda. The couple later divorced, and soon after, Kate met Eddy. She loved to travel and embarked on many adventures with him and his business. Kate and Eddy were united in marriage in 1990. In April 1992 she, the girls and Eddy moved from Texas to South Dakota where they made their home on a farm south of Clark. Kate wore many hats while living on the farm. She did the bookkeeping for Eddy’s business for many years while maintaining the farm when he was on the road. She really loved the farm life. She took pride in caring for all the animals she raised and did so with passion and a purpose.

In 2002 Kate and Eddy parted ways. She moved to Clark and worked part time and then later retired. She moved to Watertown, SD in 2015 where she enjoyed being closer to her family who was her pride and joy. She enjoyed movie nights with her grandchildren, school programs and events, the holidays and unexpected visits and she was never too busy for a coffee or lunch date.

In 2018 Kate reconnected with her high school sweetie Michael Nivens. In April 2020 they chose a lovely apartment together and Michael made the decision to move to South Dakota to be with Kate and her family. She and Michael also embarked on some adventures of their own to which she treasured dearly. They shared the remaining months of her life as friends and companions.

Grateful for sharing her life are her daughters, Ayrica (Chuck) DeBoer of Castlewood, SD, Jaycee (Jeffrey) York of Henry, SD, Amanda Raml (Larry Haag) of Watertown, SD, her companion Michael Nivens of Watertown, SD, her grandchildren, Wyatt, Clarsie, Danielle, Ryer, Colton, Abigail, Elizabeth and Gavin, her siblings, Jack (Dianne) Hughes of Alvord, TX, Carroll (Jim) Stephenson of Park Springs, TX, Allison Lawson of Mabank, TX, Jon (Cindy) Hughes of Balsora, TX and many nieces and nephews.
